IAB strongly supports today’s vote by the DC Council to amend the fiscal year 2021 budget and financial plan in order to eliminate the proposed advertising tax. At this time, every DC business is facing financial challenges as a result of the economic crisis. An advertising tax would cause significant damage to every small and local business across the district, and have a devastating impact on the prospect of economic recovery and job growth.
As Chairman Mendelson stated, “[a]t issue, fundamentally, is whether our Council will succumb to dubious demands to tax-and-spend.” We agree, and we thank the council members for recognizing that increasing taxes on DC’s small and local business community is not responsible governance.
