On April 16th, IAB issued a statement asking Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer to rescind an Executive Order that prohibits certain types of advertising in Michigan.
Executive Order No. 2020-40 includes a requirement that large retail stores “refrain from the advertising or promotion of goods that are not groceries, medical supplies, or items that are necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation, and basic operation of residences.”
In partnership with other leading advertising associations, IAB argued in a statement that this arbitrary prohibition on advertising “damages Michigan’s advertising industry by prohibiting lawful speech, while providing no benefit to public safety.”
